DIXI MICRODEEP® SEEG electrodes
Medicated is an authorized license holder and distributor of DIXI SEEG electrodes, company DIXI MEDICAL.
DIXI SEEG electrodes are special intracerebral electrodes manufactured by DIXI Medical and used for stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) - an invasive diagnostic method that precisely locates the site of epileptic seizures in patients with pharmacoresistant epilepsy.
What are DIXI MICRODEEP® SEEG electrodes?
The most famous model is MICRODEEP®
- diameter only 0.8 mm
- 5–18 contacts for recording brain activity
- made of platinum and iridium
- allow imaging from deep brain structures such as the hippocampus, insula, and cingulate cortex
- they can also be used for functional mapping and thermocoagulation of epileptogenic zones.
What are their advantages?
Minimally invasive procedure
Electrodes are introduced through small openings in the skull, without a large craniotomy, which reduces surgical trauma.
Access to the deep structures of the brain
Unlike surface EEG or subdural electrodes, SEEG can record activity from deep and hard-to-reach regions of the brain.
Higher accuracy of epileptogenic focus localization
They enable three-dimensional mapping of the epileptic network and more precise determination of the place where the attack begins.
Lower risk of complications
Studies show a lower rate of infections, bleeding and postoperative complications compared to classic subdural grid electrodes.
Compatibility with robotic neurosurgery
It reveals the causes of chronic fatigue, low energy and reduced body resistance.
Why are they important?
In patients in whom MRI, EEG, and other methods cannot clearly show where seizures occur, DIXI SEEG electrodes are often the "gold standard" for epilepsy surgery planning. In many leading epilepsy centers in Europe and the USA, DIXI MICRODEEP electrodes are considered the reference system for SEEG.
